Notary Public in the ACT
A notary public is a senior legal practitioner appointed by the Supreme Court under section 7 of the Notaries Public Act 1984. The profession has a long history dating back to the Roman Republic and its office is recognised by many nations around the world.
The responsibilities carried out by a notary public involve drawing, attesting or certifying documents such as deeds and contracts for use overseas. In addition they may take affidavits and statutory declarations, prepare wills, and draw up formal papers relating to shipping.
