Law Week

The ACT Courts and Tribunal throws open its doors during Law Week every year to promote further understanding of the law, the courts, and its role in society. Event are designed to be of interest to anyone who wants to learn more about the justice system in the ACT, and will be particularly interesting for students thinking about pursuing careers in law.

Law Week is held in May every year. We will update this page with dates and activities for 2026 when available.

What can I expect at the court during Law Week?

In 2025, we organised several events to provide information on how the ACT justice system works, and raise awareness of the services available to help people navigate that system. You can read about those events below, or watch the video to hear from attendees about Law Week in 2025.

Mock Jury Empanelment

An interactive role play allowing visitors to experience the jury process. Participants learn what happens when you’re selected (or rejected) for jury duty, and have their questions about the jury process answered.

You be the judge

Visitors can find out what it’s like to be the judge in a simulated hearing. Learn how a judicial officer makes a life-changing decision, ask questions, and discuss whether you would come to the same conclusion.

Law Week Exhibition

Visitors can explore the exhibition to find out more about the services provided to the community by local justice organisations (including our court support canines). Learn about the critical services making a real difference to how people engage with the justice system, and talk to representatives about alternative careers in law.

Court tours

Visitors can join an educational court tour. Get an overview of the court and its history, and hear about what happens inside a court room.
