Function
of the Tribunal
The Tribunal hears applications for orders for the treatment and care of people who may be suffering from a mental illness or mental dysfunction. The Tribunal may also consider applications for the release of people involuntarily detained under emergency detention and care as well as applications for the administration of convulsive therapy. In addition, the Tribunal may, upon referral by a Court, consider whether a person charged with a criminal offence is mentally ill or mentally dysfunctional and/or whether a person is fit to plead. If required, the Tribunal may make orders for their treatment and care.
